In 1988, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed October as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Every year families suffer from the loss of a baby.
Many times they grieve in silence. It is time for our community to recognize these babies and their families.
On October 13, 2013 at 2:00pm, NHCS is sponsoring its 1st annual Walk of Remembrance to honor the children that are lost yearly due to miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death.
It will take place at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex, 600 Independence Dr., Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Parking will be available near the picnic shelter, designated by purple balloons. Please arrive around 1:45pm to obtain your balloon and walk to the designated area.
There will be a welcoming ceremony followed by a short symbolic walk for the footsteps never taken. We will also have a balloon release, poems, naming ceremony and
memorial service followed by light refreshments.
This event is free and is open to the public. Families that have suffered a loss at any stage, friends and medical staff that understand are all invited to attend.
If you would like to read a favorite poem please feel free to come and share.
RSVP is not required but suggested.
Send RSVP to Karen Joyner, RN via email to kjjoyner@NHCS.org
