The Cary VFW POST 7383 is having an Inaugural Open House on Saturday October 20, 2012 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. This community oriented event will honor veterans, active military, their families, and the members of the community who have sacrificed so much for the freedom we all enjoy today.
The event includes an open house at the VFW Post, a “Meet and Greet” of national and local celebrities, a classic car display, a motorcycle display, a silent auction, activities for the children, an open house at the VFW Thrift Store, live music, a gun raffle, a flag retirement ceremony and a BBQ from the famous “Smoking Express”.
All proceeds from this event will go to the “Veterans and Families Relief Fund.” This local Post 7383 Relief Fund provides cash grants to veterans and their families. This local fund provides assistance in areas the National VFW “Unmet” needs program does not. The Relief Fund provides cash grants for fuel for vehicles, diapers, groceries, and other immediate needs for veterans and their families. The monies in the Relief Fund are currently generated by community donations through local VFW Post activities such as the “Buddy Poppy Drives” and from sales from food fundraisers which include “Chicken Plate dinners”, etc. In FY 2009 the Cary VFW provided over $10,000.00 to local service members, veterans and their families. This helped them through current stressed economic times.
