How your donation helps

BackPack Buddies Kid With Food

Donate $35 monthly: $35 fills a child’s BackPack for one month. BackPack Buddies provides children from food-insecure homes with weekend meals during the school year.

Donate $350: $350 fills a child’s BackPack for an entire school year

Donate $500: $500 funds a day of free summer meals from our food truck. The “Mobile Tastiness Machine” drives into different low-income neighborhood sites each day to serve free, healthy summer meals to kids.

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is an innovative hunger-relief organization serving seven counties in and around the Triangle. Hunger IS fixable if the community works together to do 2 things: create sources of healthy food in every low-income neighborhood and grow opportunities for people to provide for themselves by learning job skills or growing their own food. From BackPack Buddies to nutrition education, mobile markets to urban gardens, culinary job training to urban agriculture training, IFFS programs go directly to people in need and create what works to empower them. We feed. We teach. We grow…to create a hunger-free—and healthy— community.

Children’s Hunger Relief Programs

During the 2013/2014 school year, IFFS’ signature BackPack Buddies program fed 1,850 children by distributing over 68,450 backpacks filled with nutritious weekend meals. But with 121,000 children at risk of hunger in the  IFFS 7-county service area, IFFS deploys multiple approaches:

  • IFFS stocks school pantries, kids cafes, and after-school snacks.
  • The IFFS Food Truck, (aka Mobile Tastiness Machine) drives into low income neighborhoods and delivers hot, cooked meals FREE to children  age 18 and under.
  • Nutrition educators teach children and families how to cook healthy meals and how to shop for nutritious food on a budget.

Inter-Faith food Shuttle is powered by over 6000 volunteers. To volunteer, donate, or learn more, visit www.FoodShuttle.org.
